While we're counting down the days until "Magic Mike" is released on DVD and dreaming of sexy, extended dance sequences, the actors are talking about a sequel. Not long after the film premiered, Channing Tatum expressed enthusiasm for a sequel: "yes, yes and yes! We're working on the concept now," he said in a Twitter Takeover with Glamour UK. "We want to flip the script and make it bigger."
According to co-star Joe Manganiello, the cast was already discussing a second film while shooting. "We all said if this thing makes money, we're doing another one," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "The sentiment on set for a lot of people was if we had to do it again we would have made it an ensemble about the guys, just this 'Animal House' about these crazy guys."
Now today, Matthew McConaughey joins the conversation, telling Vulture, "I'm talking to Channing [Tatum] about that. Let's get some more Dallas in there. Just stick with Dallas, he's a character who would love to give more of himself to you."
It is possible that a "Magic Mike" sequel would see a lot more of Dallas' moves, since his club Xquisite was poised for a big move to Miami when the movie ended. Perhaps, as Joe alluded, the plot would include a frat house vibe? When they all move from Tampa Bay to Miami, they have to live somewhere. "You don't do a male stripper movie unless you get to do it with the people I got to do it with," Joe said. "I think keeping that core unit together, that's where the magic came from."
But assuming the sequel would start where "Magic Mike" left off, where does that leave Channing's titular Mike who quits the stripping biz cold turkey at the end? We'll keep you posted as this story develops...
