The latest casting announcement from the big-screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" novel "City of Bones" may just send a shiver down your spine. Meet Brother Jeremiah, otherwise known as actor Stephen R. Hart.
Brother Jeremiah is part of an elite group of Shadowhunters known as the Silent Brothers, who have abandoned their warrior ways to become archivists in the Silent City. But don't let that description fool you —they're much more badass than your local librarian. To wit, their bodies are littered with powerful runes, which leave them disfigured: they have no eyes, their lips are essentially stitched shut and they're bald. They do not speak but communicate via telepathy and are said to be able to destroy one's mind. Thankfully, the Silent Brothers are usually ensconced in heavy robes, so their frightening countenances aren't on full display.
Stephen brings with him a resume chock-full of creepy roles (see: "Killer," "Giant Goth Guy," "Featured City Hall Undead #5," "Inmate 2") in films like "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," "Silent Hill" and "Max Payne." He joins a large cast which already includes Lily Collins as Clary, Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace, Jemima West as Isabelle, Robert Sheehan as Simon, Godfrey Gao as Magnus, Lena Headey as Jocelyn, Jared Harris as Hodge, Kevin Zegers as Alec, CCH Pounder as Madame Dorothea, Aidan Turner as Luke, and Kevin Durand and Robert Maillet as Valentine's henchmen.
"City of Bones," which is due out August 2013, begins filming later this month.
