Lily Collins Gives 'Mortal Instruments' Production Updates, Praises Leading Man Jamie Campbell Bower
Sep 11th 2012, 21:15

If it feels like you've been waiting years for the big-screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" series to begin production, it's because you have. As you may recall, Screen Gems bought the film rights to the urban fantasy way back in October 2010, with Lily Collins cast as protagonist Clary Fray two months later. And then...there was a whole lot of nothing. Fast-forward two years, and the long-gestating production is finally underway in Toronto!

Leading lady Lily was able to sneak away from set long enough to attend this year's Toronto International Film Festival, where her movie "Writers" made its debut. And, of course, while we had the beauty in our clutches, we had to ask for an update regarding our favorite Shadowhunters.

"We've been shooting in all different locations here [in Toronto]," she said. "We just finished week three and I think we've hit every part of the movie already in three weeks. We've gone from early Clary to Shadowhunter Clary and back again and we're doing all the action, all the stunts."

Speaking of stunts, Lily had nothing but praise for leading man Jamie Campbell Bower's butt-kicking abilities...and more.

"When he walked into the room for the audition — I remember telling you this actually, a while ago — that he walked on and that was it. That was Jace. He nailed it," Lily recalled. "He didn't have to try. He's that perfect mixture between being this, like, mysterious Jace and also very endearing and funny, and he brings this wit and charm that only Jamie can bring. You just burst out laughing because he's so deadpan when he delivers things. Like I said, he's doing all of his stunts, so he's kicking ass doing flips, and it's really impressive and the same with all the other cast members. We are in it, and we are really being dedicated to the book and bringing a new flair to it."

Click play on the videos above to hear much more "TMI" from Lily, including the specific scenes they've shot, how closely the movie hems to the book and whether the cast has gotten those "Mortal Instruments"-themed tattoos yet.
