In this moment, we are so ready to be infinite!
Thankfully, the big-screen adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age novel, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," finally (FINALLY) hits theaters in New York and L.A. on Friday, expanding to select cities on September 28. Starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller, the film follows loner Charlie (Logan) throughout his freshman year as he befriends step-siblings Sam (Emma) and Patrick (Ezra), who introduce him to a whole new world of possibilities.
As we count down the days to the film's release, we're introducing you to the five pivotal characters of "Perks." Let's start with the titular Wallflower himself, Charlie.
Who he is: Charlie's a sensitive, introspective teen beginning his first year in high school with nary a friend in sight. He's also keeping a dark secret—one even he's not fully aware of, but one that has and will continue to impact his life. Charlie's story is told through a series of letters he pens to an anonymous recipient he was told he could trust. Through the year, with the help of his new friends, Charlie learns what it means to have and be a friend.
Who's portraying him: Twenty-year-old Logan is channeling childhood angst to portray the friendless freshman. The actor already has a slew of film and TV acting credits to his name, including "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" (another adaptation) and "Jack & Bobby."
Logan on Charlie: "Charlie is this really shy awkward teenager with a lot of personal issues, and he's entering high school, and the film is all about his transformation as a person under the influence of his new friends," Logan told MTV News. "I definitely tapped into some awkward childhood memories for this movie."
