There are plenty of good reasons to see Stephen Chbosky's "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" this weekend, but if you're looking for a few naughty reasons, we can offer up at least one: Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller in their underwear.
The film stars Logan as titular wallflower Charlie, who begins his first year of high school friendless, until upperclassmen Sam (Emma) and Patrick (Ezra) take him under their wings and introduce him to their eccentric band of misfits. One of the group's hobbies is staging a weekly production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," and if you've seen the cult classic, you know the costumes are, at times, miniscule.
How did the stars feel about sauntering around onstage in their skivvies?
"We had a moment for like an hour-and-a-half before doing it, I was like, 'Look, can I just wear the bigger underwear?'" Logan recalled. "And everyone's like, 'No, it's going to ruin everything—the shock value, it's not going to be there unless you go out in a thong thing.'"
"You had to do the Speedo," Ezra agreed.
"And I'm so happy I did it," Logan admitted.
"As a generation, we have some self-image issues," Ezra continued. "That's what those days were kind of about at first."
"For sure," Emma agreed. "I said to [director] Steve, there was no one else I would get up and wear fishnet tights and a feather boa and a corset and, like, strut around on stage."
In addition to being one for all and all for one in the underwear department, Logan revealed that another aspect of the shoot went a long way toward making him feel more secure. "You know what else helped, actually surprisingly, this is going to sound really odd. It made me nervous at first, but having the audience there."
"Really!?" Emma said, astonished. "Are you kidding? That doesn't make sense to me."
"I played off the audience," Logan explained. "I was just like, 'Okay, guys. We're going to get naked now.'"
"You don't want to strip if it's not for an audience," Ezra confirmed.
Thanks, Ezra. We'll remember that the next time we feel like showing off our latest Victoria's Secret purchases.
