The world's most famous vampire saga is about to get a big reboot on the small screen...and no, we're not talking about "Twilight."
Dracula, the legendary vamp who's been sucking blood since before Edward Cullen was so much as a twinkle in his maker's eye, started his reign of terror in the classic novel by Bram Stoker and has been the biggest name in the vampire game ever since—and now, according to a very excited press release from NBC, he's getting a 21st century outing! And a sexy one, too: Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the man who stole our hearts (not to mention several heads) with his smoldering performance as Henry VIII on "The Tudors," will play the titular character in the new series, which follows Dracula as he seeks vengeance on his enemies in Victorian London.
There's no word yet on when "Dracula" will premiere, or on who else will join the cast. But with this series coming courtesy of the same production team behind the incredible "Downton Abbey," we're anticipating some seriously sumptuous Victorian drama...and, dare we suggest, a crossover actor or two? We're thinking Jessica Brown Findlay as the reincarnation of Dracula's dead wife—now that Lady Sybil is off in Ireland, the show could totally spare her—and Brendan Coyle as a villain. (With trademark evil beard, of course, so as not to confuse our ongoing crush on the sweet-faced Mr. Bates.) And while the loyal Carson seems unlikely to be tempted by service outside Downton, Thomas seems ripe for the picking... and every vampire needs a butler, you know.
