Saoirse Ronan might be a diva and a squinter by her own description (though we're not sure if we believe her; she seems as down-to-earth as can be!), but when we sat down with the 18-year-old actress on the set of "The Host," she did have one good thing to say about herself: She's savvy enough not to read what people say about her on the internet.

"I just don't," she replied, when MTV News' Josh Horowitz asked her if she'd been keeping up with the buzz about her highly anticipated performance as the film's starring alien infestee. "I mean, when I started making films, I would Google myself. But y'know, people would say lovely things, and then one person would say something negative, and that's the thing that sticks in your head."
Ain't that the truth! (We're still seething from that time some troll called us "saddlebags" in an AOL chatroom back in 1998.) So it's nice to hear that Saoirse isn't subjecting herself to whatever nastiness might be out there...but a little sad, too, because most people are just super-psyched about the movie!
"It's a strange thing," she admitted. "I just don't let myself look at all. But I've heard that people are very excited about it!"
And as a result of studiously ignoring the pre-production buzz, the actress isn't worrying much about whether or not the role of Melanie will be treated with the same obsession, or become the same instant icon, as Stephenie Meyer's heroine Bella Swan...or at least, she wasn't.
"It wasn't [an issue] until you said it!" she exclaimed. (Oops! Sorry, Sao.) But she's got it under control: "[I'm] not really thinking about that. I think 'Twilight' was so so popular, I can only hope... I think the film is going to be very good. It's in very good hands."
As for her own hopes for "The Host," she said, "I just want to make a good film. I'm hoping that young women will respond to Melanie-slash-Wanda, 'cause I think that they're great characters, and hopefully other girls my age would as well. And humans in general. And souls."
To which we say: Don't worry, the souls love it. I mean, if they existed. Which they don't. And that is definitely not a tentacle dangling from our inner ear.
Are you buzz-buzz-buzzing with anticipation for Saoirse's performance in "The Host"?
