Channing Tatum Talks 'Magic Mike 2' Director Possibilities
Sep 17th 2012, 19:11

Channing Tatum didn't completely dash our hopes that the highly anticipated sequel to this year's ab-tastic "Magic Mike" is off the table. But, he also didn't completely confirm that it is happening or that it will be a road trip movie featuring the beefiest guys in the game.

"You know, we don't know if it's going to happen yet. We want it to happen. We'd love it to be a road trip movie, but [Steven] Soderbergh's not directing—like done, done. He's like actually gone," Channing told MTV News over the weekend at a brunch celebrating his new flick, "Ten Years." "He's, like, literally gone, gone, so I don't know. It's hard to imagine doing the movie without him."

Word on the street is that with Soderbergh "gone gone" as Channing put it, there's a good chance that Magic Mike himself might go behind the camera and co-direct the sequel with co-writer Reid Carolin.

He teased that it was a slim possibility, adding: "Who wants to direct your first movie after Soderbergh? I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that. I'm a little smarter than that. [Soderbergh's assistant director] Greg Jacobs might do it. He's a producing partner, and they've worked together on maybe 25 films, so he might helm it."

Hey, can somebody just agree to direct it? We really need some more "Magic Mike" in our lives, like soon. Until then we'll be chowing down at Saints and Sinners and hoping for the best.
